Carol Van Zandt is an artist and designer. Currently active in modern quilting, interior design and occasionally painting, Carol Van Zandt keeps her art licensing portfolio accessible to the commercial market and continues her practice of Japanese calligraphy and love of all things design.
Carol's modern quilting is mostly abstract and improvisational. With her love of interior design and textiles, quilting was an unexpected but natural medium to add to her repertoire and was inspired by all the amazing quilts she saw when marketing her quilting cotton fabric lines.
Carol has a background in sculpture, printmaking, painting, and mixed media. She holds a BA in Studio Art from Boston College and further studied at Massachusetts College of Art and Rhode Island School of Design. She studied textile and surface design for three years at The Institute for Textile Print Design in California.
She has spent ten years studying Japanese calligraphy and sumi painting. Carol’s eastern art influences were further developed during her seven-year residencies in Tokyo and Taipei. She has had numerous solo and group shows in America, Japan, and Taiwan.
She has taught painting to young children, and botanical watercolor and drybrush techniques to textile design students. She has spoken both individually and on a variety of panels about fabric design and art licensing. An exhibiting artist for many years, her paintings are in private collections in over 15 countries in Europe, Asia and America.
